 Nice but bad sound - not repairable - not accessory compatible March 17, 2010

Nice case does protect the IPHONE (tm) 3gs quite well. However there are great drawbacks to the case.
1- it reduces the volume of the phone substantially. Both next to the ear and on speaker pone. I would estimate about 40-50%.
2- it is very bulky. Since the IPHONE 3gs is slippery by itself, that is not all bad but it does make a bulky monster out of the phone.
3- if you scratch the screen protector it is not replaceable. I called OTTERBOX customer support today and the phone was answered right away - isn't that always the case for bad news - and they said in effect you have to live with the scratches or get a new case - the screen is not replaceable.
4- 3rd party accessories don't always fit. The case prevents many 3rd party accesories from securly plugging in especially the ones that have locking clips. Although the Apple (TM) charger etc does fit. So if your like me and need multiple charges and cables and don't wnat to by direct from APPLE (TM) watch out.
All in all I would not buy this case again unless I were going into combat and always used an earpiece.

I'm definately someone that's clumsy and drops things a LOT, so when I got my phone I needed something so protect it. This case is amazing. I've dropped my phone a few times and everytime I do the case protects it. It still looks brand new. I don't know why anyone wouldn't like it. And it comes in different colors, so where can you go wrong.

I am a "function over fashion" kind of guy, and this case rocks! If you're going to spend as much as you have to to get an iPhone, the least you can do is get this case for it. I like wearing it on my hip rather than putting it in my pocket, so the fact that this case makes the phone "thicker" doesn't matter to me. The included belt attachment thingy holds the phone very securely (I ride my motorcycle with it in place without any concern). The vibrating of the phone can still be felt through the case and snapped onto your belt. The sound of it ringing (or whatever noise your phone makes to signify an incoming call) can still be clearly heard as well as hearing who you're talking to. All of the function buttons are accessable and functionable, except one (that's really my only complaint; the switch for sound vs. vibrate is REALLY hard to operate, unless you use a pen or have the fingers of an 8 year old). Use of the touch pad is just as easy with or without this case, and having the sturdy built-in screen protector is great! There is the same kind of protective material over the camera lens and the apple insignia as well; I really didn't care about the apple insignia until I realized it helped me hold the phone. Over all, it's one of the best phone cases and protectors I've run across yet. A very good investment!

I've purchased and retired several cases (some much more expensive than the OtterBox) for my iPhone 3G S. The OtterBox Defender Case is by far the most protective, practical, and ergonomically comfortable of all I've tried. The phone is completely enclosed within a hard case which is then covered by molded neoprene. A clear sheet protects the screen, neoprene plugs protect the switches and jacks, and the camera lens is protected by a deep recess. The microphone and speaker are shielded by a fabric material that resists the errant splash. The all-important power button and action button are ALWAYS available through the protective neoprene. Other switches and jacks are easily accessible when needed and the touch screen action loses only a small amount of sensitivity. The provided belt clip covers the screen during transport and provides a convenient way to carry the phone.
Some reviews indicate a greasy feel to the screen protector, poor phone sound quality before removing protective fabric pieces from the microphone and speaker areas, and insecure attachment of the phone to the belt clip. I have experienced none of those issues. A slicker feel to the screen protector would be appreciated. I've received no complaints about voice quality when I'm talking on the phone. The belt clip is designed to attach to the case in only one direction. Attaching it in any other way IS insecure. I suspect that's what some other users may have experienced.
I'm very pleased with my OtterBox case and have recommended it to many other iPhone users. I do the same for you.

Great case. Very durable and protects the Phone well. However, the belt clip holder doesn't hold phone that well. Needs alittle better design. Having said that, the holder does a nice job of holdng the phoneas as a display and viewing it on a table. No need to hold your phone while watching a movie.
