EXCELLENT! March 11, 2010 2manytoyz (Atlanta, GA) Nicely designed. Just the right size, ease of use, works nice as a protective case and extended battery. I bought an additional one for a company executive who kills batteries quickly. He's ultra picky and even he loves it. Data transfers through the battery connector so there is never a reason to remove the battery. You should purchase an additional charge cord as a spare. The charge cord is USB to Micro USB. I leave the battery on all the time. When the external battery dies it switches to the main battery.
Juice Pack Air performs as promised, minor ergonomic issues. March 11, 2010 Anthony A. Watson Product does exactly as it promises. The case is attractive but a little too slick. Like the iPhone without a case, slips out of the pocket a little too easily. Gets slightly warm if you turn it on after running your iPhone battery down a bit. Nice not to have to worry about running out of power when you've had to use the web or Bluetooth a lot during the day.
Say good bye to signal! March 11, 2010 A. Kintz (Corning NY) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm going to be going on a long flight soon and wanted a little bit of extra life to my 3GS. Figured why not get that in a full case that I can turn on and off as needed? Great in theory...
One MAJOR flaw though. You lose all kinds of service with this thing on (not even turned on, just physically attached to your phone). I had read a few reviews stating that it can affect your service - but really just assumed that it was a bar or two. That would be doable if I was still able to get signal... but worthless when it kills it completely.
I'm sitting at my desk now and with the Mophie detached and the phone sitting on my desk, I get 4 full bars of 3G service. When I attach the Mophie and put the phone back down on the desk, in the same exact place, I instantly get No Service. How is that possible? Like I said, I could understand losing a bar or two... but EVERYTHING? No way... not cool.
If that weren't bad enough... I'm actually not even happy with the rest of the case design. If you flip the silent mode switch, you can barely reach it to turn it off. I ended up using a tiny screwdriver. It also bothers me that there's so much open space at the bottom of the case to allow dirt/dust to get in between your phone and the case and scratch things up. Why can't it just fit well if it's not going to work?
The only saving grace for this (and why it gets 2 stars instead of 1) is that in my specific situation, I will still get some use out of it on the plane. Once I turn turn my phone on to Airplane Mode, I can attach the Mophie and not care about the signal while on the plane... but other than that it is totally useless. Do not waste your money.
Why-oh-why the mini USB? March 10, 2010 Harold R. Skinner (Rochester, MN) I like this product well; right down to the point where I discovered that it DOES NOT use a standard USB cable....
WHY, OH, WHY do they make me still have to carry another USB cable!!! (that makes a total of at least THREE; one for the camera, one for the BlackBerry, and now TWO for the iPhone PLUS the power block for the iPhone to plug either of these two into).
Other than this FLAW in the implementation, the concept and design is GREAT. Weight is negligble, size is a little tight for normal iPhone case, but still works, BATTERY LIFE actually makes it through a movie without a charge...
Specifications could be a little clearer about the USB cable; there are THREE types...
"Works with iPhone" just not very well March 9, 2010 T. Litman (Miami, FL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I wanted to like the Juice Pack Air. It's a great idea for a solution to the one major disadvantage to the iPhone, battery life. Plus it looks like a cool hard case. I had a first generation Juice Pack which was a good deal bulkier and worked great until about a year of use when the inner "works" came loose from the outer case; but I figured I got a decent amount of use from it. Then, I bought a Juice Pack Air direct from Mophie right when they first came out (They only had black available at that point.) With that one, the "works" became loose in less than two weeks. To be fair, Mophie sent me a prepaid UPS box and made it very easy to get a replacement quickly. I broke the top "cap" portion of the second Juice Pack Air a few weeks later. Since not having the cap did not interfere with the battery itself, I never bothered replacing it. (However, I noticed the Mophie site started selling replacement caps so it was clear they broke easily.) Upon seeing a purple version of the Juice Pack Air in the Apple store some time later, I bought it. The cap portion on that one seemed sturdier and never broke. However, I had other issues. The "charging doesn't work with this device" window would come up frequently even though, after tapping it, it would indeed charge or maintain the charge on my iPhone. Also, the sound would frequently stop working on my phone when the Juice Pack was on it. This would be fixed by removing the Juice Pack temporarily. This stuff was more an annoyance (That I kinda got used to and figured it was worth dealing with to get the extra battery life.) that I figured might be fixed in a later version. So when I saw a new color come out (red), I bought it. Indeed, the "charging doesn't work" window only comes out when the Juice Pack runs out of power and the sound turning off doesn't happen with my latest Juice Pack. However, I very recently became aware of a more serious problem. I have been having connection problems in certain areas particularly with 3G for some time. I blamed AT&T and YES, it is at least partially their fault. But I was in a theater a few days ago and as soon as the theater lights came out, everyone pulled out their phones myself included. However, I'm getting the "searching ..." on the top which is par for the course; but then I look around and I can see three people happily tapping away at iPhones! Including the guy sitting right next to me! That's the moment I realized it's "just me" and I pull off the damned Juice Pack and the bars and 3G pop right up! So this is an important flaw. THE JUICE PACK AIR CLEARLY INTERFERES WITH THE ANTENNA SOMEHOW AND WILL WEAKEN YOUR ABILITY TO GET A CONNECTION! It interferes with the ability to receive both voice and data but more so with data. I also tried this at work where I typically have no problem getting voice but have weak data signals. I put the Juice Pack on, and 3G flickers in and out. Take it off, 3G steady and fast!
