Experience Movies Like Never Before

The DMP-BD65 employs the PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus. Developed in collaboration with Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory, this high image processing technology reproduces clear, vivid colors that are faithful to the original film.

Panasonic's Blu-ray Disc players employ high precision 4:4:4 signal technology, which working in tandem with PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus processes each pixel of the Blu-ray Disc video signal in the horizontal direction to compliment vertical direction processing. P4HD (Pixel Precision Progressive Processing for HD) is another technology that contributes to the superior picture quality of the Blu-ray players. P4HD processes more than 15 billion pixels per second and applies the optimal processing to every pixel.

Panasonic's Blu-ray Disc players further utilize 16-level motion detection to categorize the image motion of each pixel into one of 16 levels; diagonal processing to detect diagonals and correct the pixels accordingly; 1080p up-conversion to up-convert content recorded in the 480i/p or 720p format to 1080p.

This Blu-ray Disc player also provides 1080/24p output, reproducing cinema images from a Blu-ray Disc and DVD in their original 24p form with no need for conversion--enabling you to enjoy cinema images in the same format used in cinema with a 1080/24p-compatible TV.

Complimenting the HD audio codecs, the BD65 Blu-ray Disc player features 96kHz surround re-master, a function that enhances the sound quality of CDs and other sources, and even improves the quality of the multi-channel audio data on Blu-ray Discs and DVDs.

5 out of 5 stars This is a great unit!   September 10, 2010

The player arrived as promised. Set up was quick and easy. I would recommend this unit to everyone.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent   September 9, 2010

Its more than worth the price just for playing Netflix on demand on your TV. The streaming quality is excellent especially for the titles in HD (note I have it wired up with Cat5 and Verizon FIOS service to the home, your mileage may vary) The other functions like Blu-ray and Pandora are just icing on the cake. The only caveat is my FIOS service cant seem to handle streaming Netflix and Halo being played online simultaneusly, so the Netflix service starts getting interrupted. In that situation Netflix trys to lower the video quality/bit-rate, but it doesnt seem to work so well.

1 out of 5 stars Warning - needs LAN adaptor   September 8, 2010

Saw this (BD655) at Costco for $115 and thought I had a great deal. Rushed home and set it up only to find that I needed a $100 LAN Network Adaptor to use Netflix etc.etc.
Nowhere on the box could I see any warning about the extra cash needed to do what it can repeat CAN do. I returned it one hour later, of course.

Player would never get past the setp screen. Its difficult to rate an item that doesn't work. Thanks to Amazons great return policy, I sent it back and instead ordered the Samsng 550 which (so far) is working flawlessly. I odered the Panasonic because my 56 inch tv is Panasonic also.

2 out of 5 stars Intermittent network - seems like bad firmware - Aug 2010   September 8, 2010

Boot up to home screen was average. The menus were OK, but not intuitive or well arranged. The deal breaker was that the menus many times would stutter or completely hang up, and the player would only connect to my home network (wired) intermittently. Trying to diagnose by using the Easy Setup would sometimes fail at obtaining IP address, and sometimes at finding the gateway.

Picture quality was good, and upscaled DVDs looked great. I never got as far as attempting to play a Blu Ray disc.

Sound was good, I used the fiber connection. I have an older Sony receiver that decoded the signal with no problems.

We did use it for Netflix, which was a great experience the majority of the time, but it did stop now and then to switch from HD quality to normal, or just to re-buffer. Do not know if this was due to the above network issue or just Netflix traffic congestion. I am on a cable connection that supports the necessary speed for HD streaming.

I did update the firmware as soon as I connected the first time. These issues were most probably just due to a bad rev of the firmware, but possibly bad network hardware. I did not have the time to troubleshoot through tech support, or wait for the problem to be resolved with another rev (if that is what the issue was) so I returned the player.

I have since purchased a Sony S370, which so far has exhibited no network problems, but I'll submit a review when I have had a chance to evaluate it more thoroughly.
